I wouldn't know what to do either. I mean do they leave and not come back? I like your owl. I wonder if a giant plastic dog would work and move it around every day. I might try that. Scarecrow?

The hawk lives in my pine trees lol. So he isnt going anywhere. The 2 fake owls arent working on the hawk nor starlings as they both figured out the owls are fake. When the dogs are outside the hawk has attacked as it doesnt care. Ill just not let the chickens out till spring. Their run is 20x40 plus the 10ft L section so its good for them. In honor of the asshole hawk im getting him tattooed on my lower leg tomorrow

My friend keeps hers locked in their run permanently. She has so many hawks that sit in her trees every day.

We had a huge Great Horned Owl sitting on a tree branch in the neighbors yard not far from my coops right at dark yesterday evening. I went and got my camera to get a photo and just as I raised my camera, the owl flew off. Oh well.

Wow, I wouldn't be letting them out either. I just bought an owl. I was wondering if a scare crow would work. I guess I will be building a big pen . It's just good that all mine but 4 are happy in pens, Polish and silkies. I can make a big pen. The 4 real hens will be let out when I'm out.

The hawks around here are noisy. They are always screaming. Most of the time they are being chased by crows, mockingbirds, blue jays, all of them squawking at the hawks. Mockingbirds dive bomb them when one is perched in a tree. Even woodpeckers scream at them and squirrels bark at them. Nature's symphony orchestra lol.

The ones here are quiet. They are everywhere, more now then in the 5 years ive been here at this property. The big red tails stay far away from the cooper hawks. . Everyone who has chickens that let them free range is getting hit hard . Mine are still locked up and are now used to being in the run. It sucks but im not looking to lose any to hawks this winter.

Your run sounds big. As long as they can scratch and peck.

Its huge The L section is not covered it just has chicken wire on top so the snow gets in that part. The rest is tarped and i have perches up and another small chicken coop inside the run for them to perch on too and go inside . I always find eggs in the small coop nest boxes too.

ME, you have a nice setup, I like it. Spring is around the corner and hawks will be breeding, then hawk chicks. The adults will need to feed hungry chicks...you know what that means

Thanks Dawg! I have to redo the roosts and add some more, the other ones i had i didnt like .
Yeah i know:( but then the bunnies and squirrels and baby birds will be out. Hopefully the little hawks leave my chickens alone so i can let them have run of the yard and do tick patrol

I'm surprised your Bredas don't scare the heck out of the hawks. I need to get my pen built but the ground is frozen. I'll have to try to get posts up the end of the week. Maybe I'll have some luck
