Today the sprinkler guys came, and they were great. Moved and reconnected the sprinklers . BUT then they went over all my sprinklers and make changes or fixed them and made sure my whole system works well! I could cry! What great service! Yesterday got my new hot tub pump-another good business. Got a great fertilizer lawn care company. Now I have to have the house painted outside. And some walls inside as well. I made corned beef and cabbage today! See I am becoming CQ and ME! It came out great. But hubby won't touch cabbage and he says that potatoes give him gas! That I can't believe. So I guess he just ate corned beef. I've learned to cook for me. Otherwise it's too disappointing. I'm waiting to bid on a kitchen table and 4 chairs , formica and chrome from 1955 in yellow. Anyone remember those kitchen tables?

I also ordered some of those lower cabinet gliding shelves where you can pull the shelves out. It makes things easier. I also ordered a lid and pan organizer. I'm creating space and doing major cleaning (apparentally hubby can't see well) and I would like him to not bring anymore pots and pans home or he can sleep with them!

Did you corn the beef yourself?Did you smoke it?I'm getting ready to send Dale out to fire up the smoker for a rack of ribs.Right now I'm sitting here watching the geese. They found a way out yesterday and took the goslings across the street. They're headed that way now but the trail is blocked. The geese won't let me get near the babies but they found out I'm still the boss. It's been fun watching the group raise the babies.7 are involved and they chase 3 Romans away.I'm not sure why the 3 aren't involved. They had the babies in the pond swimming at a few days old.The mama hens have their babies running the yard, eating everything. After letting everybody raise their own babies this year,I don't think I'll ever raise them again. They do it much better and a lot less work.

I love corned beef and cabbage, so yummy!
I made bourbon street pork over rice last night, it turned out so great, everyone scarfed it up, I made a double batch so I could have some for lunch today but everyone ate it all last night so I guess I'm out of luck today.

Corn beef and cabbage is so easy! Watched Andrew Zimmern go to Poland and seems everything has cabbage in it and made me want some. Even egg noodles and cabbage mixed as a dish.
I didn't buy a smoker yet with all the repairs going on. Father's day may be a good day.
What type of ribs should I buy? Pork or beef? Young or old animal? How big?

I can post my recipe for Bourbon Street pork (chicken can be subbed if you prefer) if anyone is interested. No hurt feelings if you don't want it, just thought you might be interested in having it.

Sylie I'll take it since I have a few bottles of Bourbon coming . I ordered them out of curiousity, LOL.
I didn't know you could corn the beef yourself. I guess that would be a brisket?
I get corned beef hash for dinner. All Mine- Mwa Ha Ha
Sylie, after not cooking for years and years (long story) since I've been listening to CQ and ME make their big meals and low and behold...I'm becoming one of them! I even grew beans I ate for dinner. Got to grow more. And get a smoker.
My peas never amounted to much. I wonder why. I got yellow squash coming.
I spent the day cleaning the kitchen from top to bottom, throwing things out, scrubbing the areas I thought hubby was cleaning for the past few years. Unreal. We had a glide out garbage can that I was the only one cleaning underneath it. So he didn't want to get rid of it so I said "clean it" and he unscrewed it and threw it away.

The recipe doesn't actually have bourbon in it, it's named after the street in the French Quarter. Sorry I'll put the recipe up anyway though Bourbon Street Pork/chicken 1 lb ground pork cooked or 2 large pork chops fried and diced/ 6 frozen chicken thighs 1 clove chopped garlic or 1 TBSP granulated garlic 1/4 tsp ground ginger (I use a little more because we love ginger) 1/4 cup apple juice 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 2 TBSP ketchup 1 TBSP apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup water 1/3 cup soy sauce cook ground pork or pork chops, dice the chops (chicken instructions at the end) combine all of the ingredients, mix well, add to the pork in the pan and cook until 1/2 the moisture is gone serve over rice for chicken: put the raw chicken in a baking pan combine all the ingredients and pour over the chicken, bake at 350 for 15 minutes per pound or until the chicken is done (165 degrees away from the bone) serve with whatever side dish you like. The juice makes a great gravy for mashed potatoes, rice or noodles. This recipe can also be done in the crock pot: add raw meat of choice to the crock pot combine ingredients, pour over meat cook on low 8 hours The crockpot part of the recipe I got online, the rest of it is something I played with and figured out myself since I rarely use a crock pot. Seminolewind: I am glad you are getting back into cooking a little, it's so much fun to create something that you can eat and enjoy. Crafting is great but when you're done, you have more clutter, I used to be a HUGE crafter but I now I have more "junk". cooking is creating something that you can have fun doing and in the end, you have a full tummy and no clutter! haha

What would you guys think if I started a thread just for recipes? If someone has a great recipe, post it then anytime we don't know what to fix for dinner we can come browse for something that sounds good.

The culinary arts are the only art I excel at.I try to stay away from processed foods and prefer to work with fresh ingredients. It's been several years since margarine has been in my house and that started the whole process, though I quit eating fast food in the early 90's.I like to know what I'm eating and be able to pronounce all of the ingredients and know what they actually are.A lot of chemicals in our food have been banned in other countries. Our government doesn't care so you have to.
