I'm so bad about taking pictures!
Yea trees are used as poles in this pole barn.
That picture of Sharon is Sooo cute. I like burying my face in feathers too. Glad she's enjoying them.

I'll take a pic of the cement. HUBS picked up a bunch of wood and 2 bags of cement today at home depot.

I am overdoing it. Then lugging 10 gallons a day outside. I found the hand truck so I won't have to carry the water. Big difference! The other thing that dawned on me is that horse seems to drink gobs more at night and therefore pee more in the stall. Not good. I think I'll switch things around a bit and ease up on the night water.

No lugging water today or probably for the whole week. Great. I really wanted to finish the coop doors today. But cleaning out shavings, cleaning buckets, etc, took hours and it just seems that my maintenance duties use up my time and I just can't seem to get ahead. Maybe tomorrow. It's not a lot of work to finish a door, but then again everything takes a long time.

Boskelli , you're right , it may take years. We had a few nice days last week and I got some things done. But then it froze up again. Seems like I do a lot of "bandaids" to get me thru. A lot of time for nothing.
I think I wore out my circular saw. It got rickety and would not cut thru simple things without a struggle and on a good battery. I also bought gate hardware for 3 livestock gates.

I spent 5 hours outside hanging 2 cattle gates, making nicer hardware closers that work, manure duty, hauling about 5 large wheelbarrow fuls of chips.
I'm so glad I had bought an OTR Mule a few years ago when I barely needed it. Now it gets used about 4 times a week Now I upgraded to a large contractor tool box on wheels. I just had too much to haul back and forth between coop and barn. I have heavy extension cords set up to both areas. I'm working on having hoses run the perimeter between the two and have to hang the gutters.
The ground here is thawed for 4 inches then turns to ice 4 inches down.

I was thinking that my weather was similar to yours just this morning. My house didn't sell yet. But has some lookers every week. My dad says it's still nice and clean and shiny. Dad also took it upon himself to cancel the lawn service . He says the lawn looks great and doesn't need anything. I told him they are the reason the lawn looks great, so I got them back. I wish it would sell now because I'd like to get some cement work done. I decided to take my granddaughter's offer and have her clean my house. There's just me trying to get things done and I'd rather be outside working than have to clean house. I told my "hubs" that if he wants his bedroom and bathroom cleaned, chip in $25. He said it's my house. So he won't chip in. This is a sore spot with me. After all these years I realized that whatever he talked about getting , like say a shed for his tools, I would run out and buy one. The latest thing was he needed a "tent" for the lawn tractor. Meanwhile my mule is sitting out with a cover over it. I said no tent. Buy a shed. He dropped the subject. I am done paying for what he wants. Due to a lot of circumstances, he has the one large master bedroom on the first floor, a huge custom bathroom, and a 10 x 12 walk in closet because I can't keep my clothes in there because I would have to walk thru the bathroom and he is in there very frequently. So my clothes are in a hallway closet. Okay vented

Finally ordered checks and address stickers . They have a chicken design. The horse paddock is like a mud bath.

I've never encountered mud like this. In NY we had more of a loam dirt with sandy dirt way down. So drainage was not a problem. Horse's shavings were saturated, so I found some old linoleum and laid it down hoping it will help. My horse has mud caked past her ankles.

Yesterday I finally got a gate up to the chickens which helps me. And I cleaned my construction area real nice. I may need to take a day off today. I actually got to play with my battery post hole digger. That thing is so powerful that it got stopped by a rock and spun and nearly ripped my arms off. It sure does dig well even in this mud. It was a good buy.

In the stall photo, are there gaps in the wood siding?

On the back wall it's aluminum siding outside of the wood. On that wall on the right, yes just boards with spaces in between them from age. Needs to be redone. Note that the ceiling joists are actually 2x4 2x4's. On the far right is one of the posts that was a tree.
