90's day and 70's nights. But the lawn is green! The chickens have all found the shady areas in the areas. I have 2 fans running in the coop.

I"m right with you guys, 88 today but that was the coolest day so far, we've been hovering at 92 - 94. Humidity has been astronomical, 80's, 90's 100%. It's so hard to keep the chickens cool when it's so muggy you can drink the air.

I hear ya. I'm trying to get things done but just standing still I sweat into my eyes. My chickens hang out in this shady area and i'm providing cold water 2x a day. 2 silkies needed a dunking (lower half) which they actually liked because they were panting too fast.

2 of my chicks dunked themselves, I had to rescue them from the duck pool. CHICKENS CAN'T SWIM! lol I tell them, they don't listen. silly chickies. 88 again today, humidity was a bit lower at 80%, but we had a good breeze, that helped a lot from our standpoint, the chickens and ducks were still panting like crazy. I give them fresh cold water 3 or 4 times a day, they all have fans going, I keep the ground in their runs and the yard damp (spray it off with the hose when the ground gets hot). The chicks all sit directly in front of the fan, spaced out. it's kind of funny to see all their feathers blowing around lol. Especially when they turn their backs on the fan and it blows their feathers the wrong direction hahahaha....

It has been dawg gone hot here and the humidity is sky high. I'm still working on the new chicken pens and it's dragging out. I've been taking 2 to 3 showers a day, and I itch all over from taking too many showers. Good thing I have a wooden back scratcher, my dog likes it too! We shouldve moved here in the winter, it wouldve been enjoyable to work outside. Oh well, enough of my complaining. Time to get another cup of coffee before I head back outside to the salt mine lol.

It's been unbearably hot and humid here. upper 80's and lower 90's with humidity in the upper 80's. Doing my best to keep the birds cool but they pant constantly. At least they get a break at night for now. We have excessive heat warnings for the next few days and even the nights will be in the 80's. I wish electricity didn't cost so dang much, I'd put small A/c's in the all of the coops hahahaha...is that a little bit on the spoiling my birds side?
3 out of 4 of the chicks are laying now, both of the giants are laying teeny little bantam sized eggs and one wyandotte is laying normal sized eggs. She has laid normal sized eggs from the start. I can't wait until the JG's eggs get bigger. Although, those teeny eggs are so adorable!

I'm fine with the teeny eggs I guess. I just use 2 at a time and it seems to work fine, plus, I like a boiled egg now and then with my lunch but sometimes the large eggs are just more than I want so it works nicely to have a tiny one lol. The dog also enjoys a mouthful of boiled egg. They are a good size for a small treat for him. He's a wolf hybrid so he has a big mouth, the tiny eggs are just the right size for a treat.
I did notice that the first JG that started laying, her eggs are getting a little bit bigger, not too much but enough to notice when I hold it up to a smaller one.
Temps here are going into the hundreds starting tomorrow. We did get a very much needed thunderstorm today, got an inch and a quarter of rain. I won't have to water the garden in the morning!

lol my dog looks like a border collie even tho he has no border collie in him at all, he is wolf, german shepherd, husky, doberman so basically a mutt but no border collie as far as the breeder knows (75% wolf mommy got loose and decided to play with their neighbor's mutt lol that's why we got him for free) I"ll try to get a pic for you, I don't even know if I have tapatalk on my phone anymore.

Here's my dog. His name is Remi, short for Remington as in the rifles. He is a guard dog and eats small children for lunch but is terrified of the cat...

Thank you He sure is a handful though. He is 5 yrs old and still acts like an obstinate puppy. He wants what he wants and that's the end of it lol. He has "puppy dog eyes" down pat and knows it's my weakness, exploits it at every chance. Lays his head on my knee and sighs deeply when I have ice cream until I let him have some lol. I do keep "chicken cubes" in the freezer for him (I put homemade chicken broth in ice cube trays and he gets one for a treat on hot days) All I have to do is say "chicken cube" and he is sitting by the kitchen door (he's not allowed inside the kitchen and he knows that) making little whiny noises while I get one for him. I taught him some tricks like "high five", shake etc. He also knows how to find whatever I'm asking for, example: a specific toy "find monkey!" or even people and other critters in the house like "find Momma kitty!" and he does, or at least, he goes in search of the item. The cat in the picture is Kay, they are mortal enemies most of the time. Momma kitty is his best friend but he isn't allowed to play with her anymore since her accident last December, she broke her hips and dislocated her entire pelvis so she is confined to my bedroom but once in awhile I hold her up to the door and he licks her face and whines at her. So, I suppose I should at least mention the weather lol...94 yesterday and 97 today, 97 again tomorrow. It's so hard to keep the animals cool! Lots of ice, lots of fresh cold water, lots of shade.

95 today and tomorrow and possibly sunday. So I spent the day doing everything I can to keep my chickens alive (LOL) in this heat. I spend a lot oftime with them to make sure everyone is okay. They hang together under a tree so I wet it down in the morning. They got watermelon. The 2 silkie hens also got dunked in a bucket of water to cool them off. Silkie hens do not take hot well. When they pant too fast, they get held in a bucket of warm/cool water until saturated. It helps a lot. I can't work on my pen because it's too hot, and I need it up by mid august so I can go to NY. Even my horse was soaked! Never saw that in Florida! Kind of odd I think. I've had to change my clothes several times a day because they get soaked.
I may have to advertise for a handyman. I just can't get it all done.

It only got to 96 today instead of the 99 they were saying last night. Still too hot. We are having thunderstorms right now and it's cooled off significantly thankfully. It's supposed to be much cooler for the next few days, upper 70's they are saying, what a great relief that will be. It will start to creep back up though, hopefully for not as prolonged period. This has been brutal. Just a few months ago I was complaining about "where is summer?!" well, now I've got it and would like to give it back.
