it was 95 today and mostly sunny, everything is drying up nicely. We are 98% done with the new duck coop and run and we did move the ducks in, they are usually free to roam our yard all day long so the run is not critical right now. We moved the chicks into what was the duck coop (now it's the chick coop). I am having issues getting the chicks to go into their actual coop, they wanted to sleep in the run so my husband fixed up a 1 by 6 roost in the run and they went to bed on that but then we started getting a severe thunderstorm so we forced them into the coop. I don't want them exposed to the driving rain their first night in their new home. (maybe I'm a bit over protective?) Anyway, they weren't happy but they are safe and dry.

It stormed most of the day and we are still getting a ton of rain. I still cannot get the chicks into their coop, they just want to sleep on the roost in the run, I decided there was no harm in it right now. They will eventually want to go in there on their own, right? all of my other chickens eventually did. The run is strong and secure, predator proof, plastic sheeting on 2 sides where they sleep so the rain can't get them, good solid roof over the run. When the weather starts acting better I'll work on teaching them to go in at night. I need to get some mealworms mwahahaha.

I also got a thunderstorm last night. Cut the electricity and scared the hell out of me so I had to use a candle. One of my ducks (pato) is scared of lightning and runs to me whenever lightning strikes

Cold, miserable, rain this evening that flooded all of my runs and the yard, I had to go out and dig some trenches, my chicks were standing in water almost to their bums! The duck son the other hand were taking baths in the muddy water o.O silly ducks.

The duck son the other hand were taking baths in the muddy water o.O silly ducks. We havnt had rain in weeks with temps in the 90's. I was looking at our Legustrum bushes this afternoon and the leaves are wilting. Legusturm bushes are very hardy and I'm surprised they're looking bad. I dragged out the garden hose and gave them a good soaking late this afternoon. I'll give them another good soaking tomorrow afternoon as well. Thank goodness for a/c! You can send us rain Sylie!

Dawg- absolutely, you can have all you want! Today was 78 and sunny but right now it's thunder and lighting and we are expecting rain for the next week every day, I hope my trenches can handle it, I don't want to dig anymore! I'll just make boats for the chickens, the ducks can swim.
Oh and I will be gone out of state this weekend, I'll be back on Monday night so if you don't hear from me, I'm at my nephew's wedding.

Last year it was flooding rains for us, much like now in the the midwest. The only difference is that our soil is mostly sand and is able to soak it up after the rains. Of course it raised the water table and when it rained again day after day, the yard easily flooded but soaked it up again after the rain stopped. This year it's drought and wildfires. Now yall know why I stopped growing veggies, the heat or excess water kills everything. It's a no win situation and cheaper to buy veggies at the store or a flea market.

It's official, 100 today. Walk on the grass and it crunches, like walking on potato chips.
