ME, Sounds about like us, mid to upper 80's (today was 87) and humid. Omg the gnats are horrible! I can't believe it. I've never seen it so bad. I'm thinking about putting fine mesh window screen over my runs because the gnats are getting the chickens. It would cost a fortune but they can't even eat because the gnats keep trying to swarm their faces.

We're finally getting cooling rains, what a relief! We've been busy moving our stuff to our new house. So far so good, everything is going according to plan with only minor glitches. We got our new sheds delivered but they didnt bring the ramps, (minor glitch.) They're bringing them this coming Wednesday.

Sylie gnats can kill chickens so definitely keep them away.
81 today. A bit humid but not as bad as the other day

ME, I'm trying my best, have citronella torches going when we're outside, have a fan blowing into the runs, keeping their water fresh and stirred up, I really don't know what else to do, they are SOOOOO bad. Any other ideas would be great. I also have ACV traps in different spots around the yard, they work great but there are just too many gnats, the traps are not putting a dent in the population. We emptied the duck pool so that mosquitoes and gnats wouldn't be attracted to it and are constantly stirring up the duck water bowls (they run free in the yard all day so they have several water bowls sitting around.)
It was 87 again today, full on sun and humidity.

Are those what they call Buffalo gnats? I've heard of folks from the midwest complain about them with regards to chickens, the gnats can kill poultry. Here, close to the coast in marsh areas, we have sand gnats aka "no see ums" or "flying teeth." They will eat you alive! They only come out early in the mornings and late in the afternoons during the spring and fall but not during the summer nor winter. Cutter's bug spray or Avon Skin So Soft stops them from biting. Sylie, maybe Avon Skin So Soft might work, just have to rub it on the face of your birds and avoid the eyes...might be worth a try.

Sylie try essential oils maybe sprayed? Or avon skin so soft like dawg said. .
Its 939 am here, the hose is already hot to touch and i had to let it run to get cold water for the chickens. I went in my pool yesterday. Water temp was 78. Air was 82

Rainy on and off. I hate it when the humidity is higher than the temp. I could not make the house any colder to reduce the humidity.

Dawg, yes, buffalo gnats, awful little suckers. I have welts the size of quarters on my neck that burn and itch. They are out from about 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are more obnoxious in the heat of the day. I can't use products on the chickens because all the gnats want is blood and body fluids, they are after the chickens eyes and nose. The chicks will not tolerate my messing with their faces yet, not enough to precisely put anything near their eyes, I am working with them but since they moved into their big girl pen, they have become skittish. I think because they have always been at eye level with me and now I'm towering above them. Not the point...I ramble, I am working with them but they are not in a place that I can put anything on them. All of that said, we found a solution today. Along with the citronella torches, we started a fire in the fire pit with wet and punky wood which, of course, smoked like crazy and voila, no gnats, one or two here and there but no more swarms like we had. Thankfully my husband forgot that he had not covered the wood pile while we were having all those storms and flooding so now all the wood is perfect for smoking the gnats away. We even had a BBQ this evening out there! It worked great. I just hope that we don't run out of wood before gnat season ends in a month.
ME, diluted essential oils would be fine if I could get the chicks to cooperate but like I said in Dawg's paragraph, they won't let me touch their faces, it's hard to even pet them these days even when I'm sitting down. They are becoming independent and don't need me like they used to lol. *cry*
It was 84 and sunny today, this afternoon the wind came up which helped spread the smoke all over the yard and cooled things down to a very nice, pleasant evening. It's beautiful out there right now.

70 here today nice and sunny. Sem...it's unusually cold this way too for June. We are usually in the mid to upper 80's consistently this time of year but this year has been really screwy.
