Two breda pullets in the house with 55 now. Im trying something different. 1/8 of a teaspoon of oxine in the water. .i have an article that says commercial breeders use it in the chicken water. I put some in the water container and have been getting the 2 pullets to drink. Ill let you know if it works

I hope it does for your sake. Nothing wrong with trying everything you can get your hands on.

Hey Sue how are the bredas doing that you have left?

I absolutely hate when you know it's coming and there's nothing you can do. I have one right now , 8 yrs old.In the beginning she was treated for cocci, worms, bacterial. She's continued to not do well. Now she's cold and can't walk. She constantly shakes her head but there's nothing there. She's in a very hard molt and it seems like the feathers to be on her head bother her.
ME, I do know how you feel with each one as they get sick.

Hey Sue how are the bredas doing that you have left? Out of the 10 from Waltzs' I have 3 remaining. The black female is showing signs of Mareks - difficulty walking, not eating much, I give her 'gruel' daily which she picks at. The black 'roo seems to be fine as does the splash female - I have named her Hope - for obvious reasons. All my other Bredas' are doing well - waiting for me to finish Cluckingham Palace for them Since we had snow last night I think building is done for the season. That leaves me with 7 girls and 6 boys total. I should be able to breed next year w/o using the Waltzs' birds.

Are you going to keep the waltz birds in a seperate coop?

Sue did waltzs ever make up for the sick birds or did they diss you The 2 'good' remaining birds will be tested in the Spring and we'll see what pans out. When I wrote to Waltzs' I told them I did not want a refund but that they needed to take care of their birds. They never did reply - I would like to think they did the right thing, but I suspect they are in denial that they have carrier birds

Sorry this is happening to you. It's so hard when there's nothing you can do.

They wont test their birds. They get too much $$$ from people. If they had to admit they had sick birds they were selling they would lose a ton of money.

Sorry this is happening to you. It's so hard when there's nothing you can do. It's always sad when someone essentially rips you off, but my concern remains with the sick birds they are selling. There is nothing that can legally be done - makes it hard for other breeders to prove they are reputable

I agree. Making a profit off other peoples feelings and birds is wrong. The only way something can be done is if someone buys their birds who never had chickens . Then there would be better proof its their birds that are sick. .

I called everyone i had sold birds yo on e i found out the bredas were mg positive, and i reimbursed everyone and took back birds . The breda breeder didnt reimburse me , all she said was she didnt know her birds were sick and was i sure... then she sold the rest of her bredas to an APA judge in PA... and she went to the ohio show after i told her. Some people just dont care.

I contacted him lookign for a rooster after Gomez died, but things didn't pan out - I'm glad they didn't now

Is that the apa judges name in pa? She said she sold all of them, but i think she kept her show stock. She always told me she would keep her show stock cause she just couldnt sell them all and liked the white eggs. So i bet she kept the show ones. She had a seperate coop for just her show birds that never touched the ground. Their coop was wire floor and 3 feet off the ground. I was at her house and saw her setup. Her runs and coops for her welsummers and other bredas were all next to each other . The show bredas were across from the coops

I think she sold the judge a trio Yes - she sold some to Dick Horstman, he's the area secretary for the APA. He already had Bredas, hopefully the trio didn't infect the rest.
