Boskelli, sometimes we have more accurate info than the vets. I had emailed my animal disease lab for instructions and a submission form. I have copies stored in a file.
I call them and let them know I'm sending a chicken. I fill out the submission form and also state what the bird has been exposed to. I refridgerate the bird at least overnight, wrap in several garbage bags, and place in a box with lots of ice packs and the forms and check in a baggie. The post office charges me about $20-25 to mail overnight or one day (I forget). I put all this in a Styrofoam cooler and place in a box. I tape around the Styrofoam lid well.
This is my routine. I'm told not to freeze but keep cold. I also save all ice packs from anything I get in the mail.

I should have called Cornell myself, now that you both say fridge I seem to remember that the birds I took for necropsy before were cold but not frozen...which I could be sure on that. Sadly, I think there may be some more birds to send at a later time...

So sorry Boskelli. I would think that a lab can still get some good info for you.

Send her anyway to be tested. The lab might still be able to do something. My breda cockeral isnt eating now. He is refusing food and water. No bubbles, no mucus, no wheezing, just tired ,sleeps alot and his eyes are weird looking, like his 3rd eyelid is partially down but thats it

Hey Sue how are the bredas? Funny you should ask, I was going to do an update. The black female died a couple of days ago, that leaves two blues that both have problems standing/walking. I have corralled them in their little area so the others don't come and eat/drink everything in sight. They can't walk much so they have heavy bowls next to them for eating and drinking. They don't seem to be unhappy or suffering, they enjoy each others company, but it's only a matter of time. On the positive side, the black male looks very healthy as does his black and blue sisters. All in all, 3 healthy birds out of 10 - not a great success story....

Sounds sad. I hope those 3 stay good. But I think it's a matter of time too. And they do look like they have not a care in the world.

Karen im pretty sure they were the chicks she had sent to her They were chicks - about 4 weeks old when sent. I put the 2 'hospice' patients out in he sun today, they really enjoyed it, plucking at the clover and such. Poor Turtle can hardly stand now, but she still loves to 'bill out' food all over the place, she thinks that's great fun! They are eating a little, drinking well, skinny as as rails....but don't appear to be in distress.

Well, the hospice chickens are now both gone, poor Turtle - she was determined to the end So, I have 1 black & 1 blue pullet and 1 black male. All look healthy, we shall see. They will be tested come the spring - if clear I will breed them if not, they can lay eggs

Oh no! These nasty illnesses make us feel so helpless!
I guess if I had to guess and try (that's me), I'd give her Tylan or similar and tube feedings for a few days. I wonder if molting has weakened her immune system?
