Snowing. Governor declared state of emergency. We are expected to get up to a foot of snow plus ice.

They call it so the snow trucks can clean the roads before the idiot drivers start lol. It helps to keep the accidents down too. They call it for bad snowstorms, and if we are to get the tail ends of hurricanes. Just keeps everyone off the roads and safe

just curious Karen, where did you move to? I moved to Corydon Indiana which is right near Louisville Kentucky. It may not snow very much more than an inch here, but it's darn cold! I woke up to 16 degrees today and not liking it. Horse was not liking it either. Not shivering but cold. I am wrapped up like a mummy-layer upon layer. It will be under 25 degrees for the next few days. Finally got the right size gutters for the barn. I just have to put them up.

We did get a dusting of snow last night and today the high was 17. The low is supposed to be 5. Tomorrow they are saying a high of 21 and things just keep getting better from there for the foreseeable future (forecast only goes 14 days out lol) Of course, I'm not holding my breath on anything, I have new baby chicks to think about, I can't suffocate myself waiting for weather guessers to be right.

The weather here is a real challenge. It gets very cold without any snow. All I think of is buying new clothes.

If they do, yes it can kill them or at least make them very sick.

Snow is a result of colder temperatures. It's (basically and essentially) frozen precipitation. The air has to be cold enough to freeze the moisture in the air to make snow, ice, freezing rain etc. The snow itself can actually be an insulating factor, that's why eskimo's have been known to camp out or live in igloos (houses made of snow and ice) I stack snow up against my chicken and duck runs to help keep the heat in.

I love Wisteria. I had some of my birds eat the purple flowers after they dropped off the vines when I lived in Georgia and they didnt get sick. I'm not saying they all ran over to gobble them up, but they lived. On a side note; once wisteria gets established, you have to keep it under control or it'll grow everywhere super fast especially in wet weather. The key is cutting back and/or guiding "runners" on the ground and fenceline where you want it to grow. Otherwise it'll eventually take over everything.
Back in the freezer this morning. I covered the plants yesterday afternoon thankfully, only one more morning of freezing temps. I'm driving up to Georgia tomorrow to get my back cracked by the bonecracker.

I'm sick of the cold, the lugging water outside, and everthing else. I ordered a 16 gallon heated water bucket to go with my 5 gallon one so I will get to go almost 7 days in a freeze with the horse.
The chickens are easier. IT HITS 32 in their coop only long enough to put a thin layer of ice on top of their water. I spend more time replacing dirty water than actually refilling buckets. They are much easier than the horse.

Isn't it time for Spring yet? I don't mind the 30s' but I'm sick of the 20s' and the cold, biting wind.....ok - enough whining for today

Sue. I'll see if I can send you some warmer temps this weekend. We're getting into the low 80's.
