This Saturday/sunday it should get down to single digits at night and not too good during the day. It's drizzling but maybe I should go out anyway and work on the horsey stuff.

This weekend's plans on the part of the Weather Gods:
3-6 inches starting late Saturday.
17 - 28 inches until it quits sometime late Sunday.
Ugh. I will be without Internet or cell service Sunday for absolute certain. (Satillite internet here, and cell has always been marginal anyways in this spot.)

We're getting snow Friday night into Sat. they are saying 5-8 possibly more with blizzard conditions. Temps will be in the teens and a few nights are supposed to get below zero last I checked but we all know not to hold our breath.

Yea they keep saying a snow storm this weekend. I'm pretty sure we have food and I should fill up some water buckets outside just to make things easier.

We ditched the TV b/c reception was so iffy and we rarely watched it. Electric is likely to go out, which means carrying water to the coops and conserving what's in the cabin -ugh! Phone will be out for sure. Enforced isolation - it's ok with me

It's raining right now and all night. Supposed to get a temp drop later. That should make things fun! I hear ya, Boskelli. We couldn't get cell reception until we bought one of those Walmart straight talk phones. I think they use Verizon but I'm not sure. And we have Dish tv. The cell phone is also used for internet "hotspot" and paid for unlimited usage. That's our internet. Not too bad. So I guess if I have phone I have internet.
I've been carrying water out for the horse (5 gal per day). With the chickens I wait til the hose thaws, then clean all the buckets and fill them at the coop and fill an extra bucket or two for frozen hose days.

We use straight talk too, I never have a problem with reception or anything. They don't have a contract with any one provider in particular, they have partial contracts with all of them so that their service can use any tower anywhere. I love straight talk, everyone I know uses it. I don't see any difference in their service as compared to when we had a contract carrier. I especially like the flexible plans. You can choose what fits your budget from month to month just by buying a different card lol. (maybe they should hire me as a spokesperson lol) I'm done

We got a scant 3 inches of snow last night after all the hype of blizzard and 5 - 8 inches blah blah blah. The wind wasn't even all that bad, a few gusts got a little aggressive but over all, it was just another January snow. Those of you that are East of me (I'm in Iowa) be prepared for the worst of course, but don't get too uptight, it would have to do a lot more strengthening to become all that they are forecasting. I've been watching this storm all along because I have relatives on the East coast but if it does the same thing out there that it did here, you'll all be fine Good luck, batten down the hatches just in case but don't lose any sleep.

Fake news eh Sylie? There's alot of that in the media, sensationalism and blowing things out of proportion.

Got an inch of snow. That's not the bad part. It's been almost 20 degrees here all day and going to about 7 degrees tonight. And not much better for several days after that.
I am losing my mind with the horse and water issue. I filled a bunch of buckets yesterday hoping to have water available in advance but they all froze solid. So I've been carrying 2-3 buckets a day of hot water to the barn from the kitchen sink. Then, I have 2 snaps for ropes to unsnap to get thru the gate. Well they froze shut. I got a hammer and hot water and got them off but they froze again so I had to figure out a way to tie things shut without snaps. And the ropes were frozen solid as well!
I got online and ordered a heated 5 gallon bucket, and a heavier winter blanket for the horse. The chickens are fine. The coop is heated to above freezing and 2 water buckets had a skin of ice on them. So I turned up the heat (makes me feel better). I also think I might fill water buckets and store them in the coop for the horse. I have 6 buckets to play with.
So Dawg asked if I miss Florida. Today I do. It's horrible cold and I worry too much. The chickens are somewhat easy. But the additional horse work is killing me. But what do I expect when not paying $500 a month in board like in Florida. Carting water out there, and the manure clean up is a lot of work. I'm working on making things easier.....

2 degrees for overnight and the morning tomorrow.
Its rough going from warm to cold karen, especially so close to winter. The heated buckets will definitely help alot. . .im so done with this cold. The pipe next to the coop froze overnight so we had to carry 5 gal buckets of water to the goats and chickens too from the house. I walked extra slow due to the ice. The wind made it all worse.

I have a problem with my padlocks on the chicken and duck coops freezing, my solution, wrap them in aluminum foil, problem solved, it's so easy and cheap, no muss no fuss, I'm sure it would work on your snaps too. Just make sure you squeeze the foil around it nice and tight so that no moisture can get in there. (make sure they are thawed before you wrap them or they'll stay frozen)

Currently, -12 degrees F outside. Yes, that's a minus sign.
Supposed to reach 0 at about 4 pm today. Wind is picking up, by 9 am it will "feel like" minus 30 F.
We got about a foot of snow on Sunday.
Chicken care is challenging ATM.

I'm glad we live down south here. I dont know how yall can handle the bitter cold. I wish yall the best including your animals. The cold was our main reason for not moving to Tennessee.

I has 2 pair of gloves on this morning and my hands were still almost frozen. Supposed to warm uo to 20s' tomorrow - can't wait, I'll break out the shorts
