Snow today - we have a couple of inches, but the ground is warm so it won't last long

We went from 60 for a few days, to 30 with serious wind chill to 20 and 25 during the day and 20 this morning!!! Snow this weekend. I have been lugging buckets of water out for the horse. I can carry 3 gallons at a time, so it's several trips.
Worst thing happened yesterday morning. Powell is yelling me awake because my horse is running down the street! OMG! I just jumped out of bed and ran down the street with pajamas, a blanket over me and barefeet. She got so far I couldn't see her so I came back to the house and she must have turned around and ran past the house in front of me standing there. I just stood there and she came back and walked up to me!
It's my own fault. Something must have spooked her and she ran thru a flimsy fence I had temporarily. I walked her back to her paddock over frozen mud ruts with bare feet. My feet luckily were so frozen that I couldn't feel them. I was exhausted the rest of the day.
Yesterday I got 9 yards of wood chips delivered. Now I can take care of the area in front of the barn and fence. Chickens are great. Their shed yesterday was 60, so I cut the heat down. But they seem content being locked up.

Wow, that was really scary! I'm glad to know that the chickens are okay being locked up. Sometimes it's amazing what an animal will adapt to. For example, I have a cat that has a lot of health problems. I was giving her a bath about 6 weeks ago when the dog decided to be stupid, she jumped off my shoulder and hit the edge of the stove on the way down and completely destroyed her pelvis, both of her hips just sort of...hang there. But, on the good side, she has figured out how to drag herself around and even pulls herself up onto my bed to sleep on my pillow. She is adapting to not having the use of her back legs. Animals are so amazing! Sometimes I think that we don't give them enough credit.

It snowed about 1.5 inch last night. I think there may be rain later.
Yes thank g_d she got back safe. I emailed my parents and was telling them about what happened and my father said it was too dangerous and too much work to have a horse. (funny I've owned horses for 32 years). He's such a downer!!! Always negative. Will have to stop telling him stuff.

I can sympathize.

You are right. I should watch what I tell him. my sister on the other hand emails me back with "maybe your horse wants to go back to florida!" Always funny. yesterday I tried to turn my truck around and got stuck in the mud. HUBS pulled me out. It's cold here. 30 or so day and night. I had to let the chickens out for a while and started cutting wood for new doors on the coop. I'm not sure if I can put posts in the ground.

It's been chilly and cloudy here, mid 30's at night, mid 50's in the day. It's supposed to slowly warm up to the low 70's this weekend. Then next Monday morning the bottom is supposed to drop out of the thermometer, very cold and very windy UGH.
