50's. Chickens fine. Prisma, my mare was out in the rain in the 50's and shivering. So she got a light blanket on her. What I need is a run in stall so she has a choice and doesn't have to stand in the rain. She still has a white cow friend, LOL.

Tough? I thought rain all night was sleeping weather! Normally it is, but we have a couple of skylights that makes the raindrops sound much louder grrr.

Skylights in Florida? Geez. I guess this is the land of dribbly weather and squishy ground. People don't even water their vegetable plants here!

Skylights in Florida? Geez. I guess this is the land of dribbly weather and squishy ground. People don't even water their vegetable plants here! Yeah, at first Sharon and I thought skylights were cool looking. They call Florida the "Sunshine State" as you know. That's a misnomer for sure, it's more cloudy/rainy/stormy...unless there's a drought going on. Skylights arnt so cool after all. They ARE cool looking, but that's all. When we had our house re-roofed, the contractor also replaced the skylights. He asked us if we wanted them "tinted," and we said 'no.' We figured that tinting the skylights would be defeating the purpose of bringing natural sunlight into the house. It was a mistake not to get them tinted especially if you're sitting in a chair under the skylight. It's very bright, like a 250 watt light bulb directed at your head without the heat. Also you'd think that you'd be able to see the stars or moon at night though the skylights, nope, not so. There is no heat from the sun nor cold air from winter that passes though the skylights though, that's the good thing. The contractor also offered to replace the old skylights with glass instead of plexiglass? I dont know what wouldve made the difference between glass or plexiglass, but we figured it would be best to replace with old ones with the same type, plexiglass. We thought that if we had a severe storm, debris might crack and shatter regular glass and that plexiglass might crack, but not shatter. When there is hard rains here, and it's often...it sounds like a dump truck load of marbles being dropped on the skylights. Yes, it is very loud and you cant hear the TV even with the volume maxed out. We just turn off the TV until the hard rains slack off. As for the rest of the roof, the hard rains are muffled like it should be. There are alot of homes that have skylights. I'm sure folks have different opinions about them. I dont know if they affect the value of a home or not. I only know they are "cool looking," just wait until it rains lol.

I stocked up on corid. Supposed to get 2 days of rain with flooding starting this afternoon. The ground is frozen. The water will have no where to go:(.

I still find with my Marek's birds no matter how old they can be prone to coccidiosis. And my lab doc says he would treat backyard chickens 2x a year prophalactically (sp).
I have truly learned the definition of mud season. How do people deal with it? (Duh!) I have horse prints all over and the "paddock" is getting torn out. I wonder if the grass will come back. Or it's hopeless.
This dirt here is primo planting dirt maybe needing some loosening for planting . But it's dirt. And it rains enough where you don't have to water the veggies. So I'll be going from non-growth pure sand to rich planting soil. I may be asking about canning at some point. My cellar has a whole room of jars for canning.

It's pouring rain here and I caught one of my hens drinking water from a small puddle in the sand. I'm glad I scoop poop often during the day. Funny, I thought about adding Corid to the puddle! Hahahaha!

I figure if they want to drink then corid goes in every puddle and anywhere the water collects.

I'd do it too but the sand sucks up the water after a couple of minutes. For me it would be like pouring the corid down the drain...bye bye $$

Mud! Never thought I'd have a problem. It's horrible. All I could do right now is cover the entrance areas with old hay. Otherwise it's so slick me or the horse could slip and fall. I really have to start on a fence today. I also ordered a pasture "harrow" to pull behind my mule and smooth out the ruts before they freeze. I also will try to limit the area she's in. I don't think anything will save that pasture. It will be trampled into the mud and be gone.
Was 50's and drizzly. Now cold like 30.
