Chilly here, expecting a warm up and alot of rain starting this Sunday. We had heavy frost yesterday morning and I had our plants covered with old sheets and light blankets. I have to remove them today.

It's been in the upper 20's and low 30's here during the day but in the low teens at night. Awful! No sign of anymore snow and all of the 14 inches we got at Thanksgiving is gone now. I hope you are all staying warm and your flocks too!

20's here every night. The chickens are okay. I'd like to insulate the horse stall better. Not getting used to this. Here I have the added burden of getting up earlier, chopping the ice out of the horse buckets, cleaning out the stall daily.
Not to mention going from scant clothing to go out in the morning like pajamas and shoes -to dressing, socks, pants, shirt, sweater, warm coat, and hat and gloves. No frozen water, no stall just a shelter, vs. feeding 2x a day, moving her in and
the chickens are actually not much more work. Just letting them out of the coop when it's warm enough. I was so spoiled on Florida!

I was so spoiled on Florida! You can always move back to your old house and rent the one you're in now, right? I'm glad we decided not to move to Tennessee. I've been looking at the temps up there where we were planning to move to and it's darn near freezing every day. At night it's way below freezing! We cant handle that freezing cold brrrrrr! We would be shut-ins!

You will hopefully get used to the weather . It's in the 40's here and the arthritis in my feet are reminding me just how cold it is. People look at me and wonder why I'm walking funny! LOL

It was 16 degrees at 5am. 19 degrees when I went outside. The chickens were actually warm at 42 degrees! I guess the heater works great. As for horsie, it's been nothing but chopping ice in the buckets, and bringing water out from the house. Hopefully one day I'll get to hook up the water (faucet)back there that drops the water below the freezing level. Looks like there were 2 here, I wonder where the turn off is.

They dont make heated waterers for horses?

We're expecting big rains all day tomorrow. Tarps are down on the sides of the pens. It would be cool if it were snow!

Raining outside this morning. It was a short walk with our dog. It's cool out, at least it's not freezing cold. I've set aside today to prep and clean my motorcycle for servicing when the weather warms up.

Finally, enough warmth coming later this afternoon I can clean out the debris under the roosting area. (It had frozen SOLID.) Thawing, at least for temporary!
I do keep a lot of bedding in the coop itself, but I really do want to remove excess stuff.
I'm rather amazed that I'm excited to be back on toilet duty!!!
Chickens are excited, and I'm excited that their water isn't freezing so quickly...
