Yea that's cold, Artemis. How do your chickens stay warm?
Mine still have the heater. But it's 1500 watts. I'm going to try 3x 250 bulbs instead and see what the difference is. Those bulbs throw a lot of heat. Everyone looks good.

Well, it finally stopped snowing...*drum roll please* 14 inches! yippee skippee I get to shovel in the morning! The ducks will not be pleased, I'm going to try to get a video with my phone when I let them out in the morning, it should be hilarious watching them try to get through that much snow. We can't get our cars out, the roads haven't been plowed yet (they will be by morning I'm sure but...) The ground is still warm and thawed. I tried to shovel a path to the duck and chicken coops earlier (back when we only had 10 inches) and kept hitting mud. Winter is here, maybe not by the calendar but Mother Nature gives no cares about calendars apparently.
Our low tonight is supposed to be 18, tomorrow 9 and Wednesday 3. I don't see the snow going anywhere anytime soon. Day temps will be in the 20's.

Last night the wind picked up to "warning" and my bedroom upstairs was really cold. I don't think there's too much heating coming out of one vent for the entire upstairs (2 bedrooms). It's supposed to get cold again this week. Cold this morning with flurries.

It is a lot of snow that's for sure! We have ice underneath it. Our road crews are about as bright as our weathermen too. They scraped the snow off the ice and left it. No salt, no sand, no nothing. It's absolutely treacherous to drive. But on the bright side...I get to practice ice driving! I did get all of the shoveling done except the duck yard, I made them a path through it but they would really like to be able to go in the whole yard again, I need to get on that. They did attempt to walk in it but 2 of the 3 got stuck and I had to go out and get them. I have a video of it, it's hilarious. All the quacking in protest. Makes me laugh to watch it.

That's scary Sylie. You might need tire chains.

Tire chains are illegal inside city limits so we just have to do our best and go slow. I did get the duck yard shoveled today, they were very happy about it and spent an hour trying to find bugs and worms.

well my birds were in for 4 days straight because it stayed in the 20's. Yesterday and today were near 60 so they were out all day. It rained last night and I got up today to several new ponds in the neighbor's pastures. Wow. must have rained a lot.

It rained all day today, the temps were in the upper 30's. Most of our snow is gone now, mainly just the piles where the plows dumped the snow. The ducks were happily splashing around in the new mud puddles and trying to find bugs under all of the soggy leaves. We did get some thunder and a short period of heavy sleet, I put the ducks back in their covered run during the sleet but boy oh boy did they complain! The chickens are smarter, they stayed in their coop during the rain, I'm pretty sure they were knitting little baby things hahahaha. I put the ducks in bed early tonight, between rain storms. They complained about that too. I told them to watch tv or play cards until bedtime lol.

Yesterday we realized the ceramic tile on the screen porch get wet with condensation. There's nothing to be done, and it's a matter of cold tile hitting humid air. So I just ordered some area indoor/outdoor rugs. It's 60 out right now.

It was almost in the mid 80's today with big storms in southeast Georgia including tornadoes where I used to live. There was some damage and schools are closed up there tomorrow. We're expecting off and on hard rains tomorrow as a slow moving cold front passes through.

The cold front passed through and it was a beautiful day today, nice and cool but not cold. It's supposed to be close to freezing in the morning though, and I'm taking my dog to the groomer for a bath and haircut...a Navy regulation haircut.

We had a 10% chance of 0" inches of snow today....or, in reality...100% chance of freezing rain o.O It almost seems like they are getting less accurate as we go, maybe they really are guessing.

I woke up to white this morning. Upper 20's. It's not the cold I mind. It's the dressing and undressing with the coat, gloves, boots, etc.
