I tried suggesting to my husband that we stop driving it but he insists it's fine, just be careful, he doesn't have a license so depends on me to drive him to the store and whatnot so I have no choice in the matter, I do what he tells me or there are problems. That's why I'm so observant of how it feels while I'm driving, if something is different or worse or whatever, I make sure to tell him so he can see if it's worse enough that we HAVE to stop driving it. It's our only vehicle so our choices are limited on how to get the groceries home. Sylie, us men can be hard headed. It's either my way or the highway attitude. I've learned the hard way too often that I need listen to my wife. Her voice of reason has been wise and prevented problems in the here and now, and later down the road, so to speak. If my wife suggests not doing something or doing something a different way, I follow her advice because I've come to know in my mind she's right, and my way will have bad consequences due to an inept decision on my part. By the same token, I do the same for her. It's a two way street, not a one way street. I honestly feel there's a safety issue with your Explorer Sylie. Your life and husbands life are at risk of injury or worse. Explain THAT to your husband, OR have him read what I've typed HERE. You mentioned the front wheel problem...it could be the wheel bearings or ball joint. If your wheel bearings disintegrate, your tire will fall off while driving. Same thing will happen with worn ball joints. Look at the consequences. How will you explain that to your children and loved ones, if your still alive? If anything, ask a neighbor to drive yall around. Offer them a tank of gas and some eggs until you get your Explorer fixed. Think about it, you know what's right.

My husband is hard headed but also arrogant. He does not believe that I can be right about anything. If I tell him the sky is blue, he asks someone else to confirm. When I tell him that "this" herb helps with "this" he has to go look it up online to make sure even though I am an herbal instructor and have studied under some of the best herbalists there are. He has worked on cars all of his life, he has always been the one to repair our cars until a few years ago when he got sick of it. Now he'd rather pay someone else to do it only we don't have the money to pay someone else so nothing gets fixed. Since we don't drive out of town we rarely go faster than 25. If I absolutely HAD to go faster than 30 ish or go out of town, I can borrow my parents car but I don't like to do that unless it's necessary. I hit a patch of black ice 7 yrs ago with their pick up and rolled it (totaled)and have never gotten over the guilt so I don't like to drive their car lol. So we get along okay, we just don't go out of town with our truck. We don't like to ask other people for favors, not even family unless it's absolutely necessary. We are not friendly enough with the neighbors to even chat with them except for the one on the south side, she's really nice and likes my (ahem...illegal) ducks. The ducks are not illegal but their pen is not placed far enough from her house for the town regulations so if we tick her off she could report it and I'd have to get rid of them because we don't have enough space on our property to get them far enough from her house to comply. And, I'm babbling...sorry about that!

Well the least expensive way to go is him fixing it. He can also buy reconditioned parts. Crying helps , LOL. It may bring him around, LOL

hahahahaha @ crying. It doesn't really work on him he just tells me to write my congressman. It's okay, we'll just baby it along until something falls in our laps. As always. We actually bought this truck from a guy at his work about 10 yrs ago or something like that for 200 dollars. Something will come along.
So...Dawg, how is the new truck now that you've had it a few days? Still loving it? (oh...now I want McDonalds dang it!)

If he's serious, his day is coming and will regret his actions or inactions. As far as my truck goes, it's just a truck, used of course. I bought it for the 4 wheel drive only. I really dont need all that fancy electronic stuff it has. There wasnt any other trucks available in the price range that I could afford. Believe me, if there was a basic used truck with 4 wheel drive that was cheaper and in good shape, I wouldve bought it. Trucks are expensive nowadays, good grief. The GMC has more power than the F-150 two wheel drive I had and gets about the same gas mileage as the Ford. Of course the Ford had the long bed. I liked the long bed ALOT! Both are 6 cylinder engines.

Sylie,I have to do all the driving, too.Dale has narcolepsy and can't stay awake in the car,he's like a baby. One day,he fell asleep between the driveway and the stop sign, maybe an 1/8 of a mile, ran the SS and ended up in a ditch.I took his driving privileges away that day, mostly as a public service. The school bus had just picked up the kids,it could have ended bad.He was up to 28 wrecks and how he never hurt/killed somebody(including himself) never ceases to amaze me.Then,he complains about how I drive, saying I drive the mini van like a sports car.Well,he gets from point A to point B in one piece,it's not my fault he falls asleep and gets tossed around a little.I've offered to get him a booster seat......

That's bad CQ. I've seen only one narcoleptic and he was in the Navy, but I dont think he was as bad as Dale. He fell asleep standing up once, and then he fell asleep while eating lunch. He almost fell out of his chair but luckily someone caught him before hitting the deck. He was nearing retirement and I was glad to see him go. He used to slobber alot too.

Dale falls asleep standing,he's really good at that. The cataplexy(sp?) will bring him down to his knees, though.Fortunately,he doesn't slobber but I've learned not to wake him up,he always wakes up in a bad mood.I do have to wake him up if we stop at a store.I use to let him sleep but everybody in the parking lot thinks he's overdosed.More than once I've been paged over the loud speakers and have to explain to the cops he has a sleep disorder, not a drug problem. Most of the time I don't think they believe me.The last time, they were going through my van looking for drugs/paraphernalia and that's when I told Dale he can't do that anymore. They even slit open 2 bags of feed I had in back, spilling it everywhere. It was an illegal search but since Dale was sleeping in a vehicle, that "gave them probable cause",according to them.I asked when was a law passed that says you can't sleep in a vehicle,I see the cops do it,too, and they threatened to arrest me for obstruction.Obstruction of what?!?!That's the best they had since they were so disappointed they didn't find drugs, just scratch mix.I pissed them off when I reminded them we were law abiding, tax paying, American born citizens and we have rights, they didn't like hearing that or being challenged.I was told to sit down, shut up or else....I couldn't even get one of my cigarettes they had dumped all over the driver's seat.We broke no laws, they tore my van and stuff up and they ruined 2 bags of feed but "they were just doing their job"(harassing law abiding tax paying American civilians). My tax dollars hard at work.LOL

Oh,I forgot to add we had to wait another 45 min for a female supervisor to arrive to search me for drugs, too. It was Feb ,I wear layers and when she arrived,I started taking it all off right there in Krogers' parking lot so she could search EVERYTHING really good.I got down to my bra, started to pull my jeans/long underwear down and I was threatened with being arrested for indecent exposure.I was just trying to make it easy, giving them what they wanted(except the non existent drugs we didn't have). We were damned if we did, damned if we didn't.All because of a medical condition and because they had "probable cause",we had no recourse.Like I said,my tax dollars hard at work....

CQ. I see no probable cause for search in this instance. If they didnt see anything illegal in plain view other than your husband sleeping in the car, there's nothing illegal about that. They can do a welfare check and ask Dale for permission to search his person and vehicle for anything illegal. If Dale gives them permission, they must also inform Dale that he can refuse the search of his person and vehicle, and they must also inform Dale that he can stop the search at any time. It's called a "consent search" and no probable cause is needed. If Dale were to refuse the cops permission to search his person and vehicle, the cops can detain (not arrest) Dale until a K-9 unit arrives and the dog sniffs around the vehicle. Most drug dogs are trained to sit when they alert on drugs. The Supreme Court has upheld dog alerts as probable cause for a search. They may run the dog around the vehicle several times, and if the dog does not alert, Dale must be released.
A "search incidental to arrest" occurs when there is probable cause or reasonable belief that a crime is happening or about to happen. They must inform Dale what he is under arrest for. A cop must use minimal force to effect the arrest. With this one, a person IS going to jail.
"Search by search warrant" requires probable cause.
If they are doing an "inspection," they must inform you, and what they are inspecting for. This can turn into a search incidental to arrest.
Go to the local newspaper and complain about cops harassing yall and the damage they did without reimbersement.
I was a cop in the Navy as well as a self defense instructor and Custom's Inspector. I was subject to the same laws as cops in the civilian world. A nice thing...Customs officers have more authority than cops.

The way I see it, if I can afford a truck, I can afford the gas. Otherwise I'd drive a Prius (NEVAHH!) LOL. What's the biggest motor you've owned? The biggest for me was a 390 in a 67 Ford Galaxie. I could sit still in that car and melt the rear tires on the pavement, thick blue smoke everywhere lol. I had a 77 Vette with a mild cam in it, 350 motor. It would scoot down the road quickly.

I asked my husband what it is and it's the passenger side radius arm, the end of it has been worn into an oblong and that causes the pulling and wobbling. We are working on getting it fixed but the money doesn't seem to happen. I just don't drive it more than I have to and when I do, I stay under 40, usually 30 ish if I can get away with it. Thank you for your concern! It's great to have friends that care.

That car was amazing. My father actually sold it to me with 117,000 miles on it. AT around 160,000+, I sold it. Some crazy person wanted the engine.
A 390 in a Ford Galaxie is nothing to sneeze at. I'll bet that car could have left anyone in the dust in '67 and beyond.

Well, the alternator in the 2016 GMC truck I just bought is kaput. I noticed the gauge was discharging and had it checked out at an auto parts store. I thought it was the battery. The guy told me the battery was good and he tested the alternator. He said it was the alternator or the alternator wiring harness. He had the same thing happen in his Chevy Silverado. I took the truck back to CarMax and have an appointment Monday morning. CarMax has a 30 day free guarantee repair policy if there's a problem with any vehicle they sell. I told my wife if this truck starts nichol and diming me, I'll get rid of it and get a Ford 4x4. She said she likes the color of the truck, hahaha.
