So what would make a rooster attack a hen that has lived for 6 months next to him in another run? Like chase, grab the tail feathers to catch her , mount her , and then viciously peck her in the head and body and hold her down while other hens run over and peck her too?

Usually it"s a refusal to be submissive or she's not a member of his current harem. One of my roos would chase the old hens away.

My one JG roo was not a youngster, but the hen was quite older. Maybe she served no purpose for him. For amorous young roos I used to wrap one foot with vetwrap to slow him down. Or put pinless peepers on him. Is there another flock she can join?

She was with the 2 month olds but was bullying them bad, she drew blood on one juvie so i put her by herself this morning. She and my half blind hen went with the juvies, and the other hen is good with them but Tina is bad, chasing them, pecking them, keeping them away from the food and water. Being a real bully

You ever meet someone that rubs you the wrong way and you just don't like them or can't get along with?Chickens probably experience it,too. My dog loves just about everybody but a couple of people he doesn't like, usually questionable characters but he could be picking up vibes from me,too.Animals are social but they have personality conflicts just like people.Or your chickens are just weird.LOL

Its just weird. The 4 others she came with intergrated perfectly. But from the start she wasnt accepted. I just never had this happen. She is in a rabbit cage on my porch as she keeps going after the 2 onth olds(brownies group) and she hurt one bad enough to draw blood. Yet 55 my ameracauna loves her and they get along great. So 55 is with brownies group and is being a surrogate momma and Tina is in a cage cause she is being a jerk

Sometimes it takes some juggling to get everyone happy. I had to move one today into the big house because she was running after my Hannah.

It's almost like having kids, they fight and can't get along though they live in the same house. The only difference, the chickens don't holler "MOM!!!" to come and take sides.....

Yea, I'll tolerate some hen pecking or alpha pecking but I don't like hurting or making it so they cower in a corner with their head hidden.
I put Hannah in with the silkies she knew and the 5 Polish and one silkie male continuously claimed her and she was not used to that, and one of the Polish hens pecked at her but lightly. But that male!!!!!!
So she's living with Blind Girl's sister , Princessfluffybritches. I see her thinking "she looks like blind girl but doesn't smell like her", LOL.

So i took mork out. Put tina turner in with just the hens... its been 2 days and they accepted her better without mork in there. Why ? There was minimal pecking and everyone is getting along really good. I didnt think to remove him to add her the first time around.

Mork is 3 now. His behaviors of trying to kill certain hens i am not happy with. He is probably going back to his original owner

So far still good, Tina has continually blended with the other hens no fighting, no pecking. ( which im also assuming sinve Mork is not in with them the hens are more relaxed)

Well there's pinless peepers. Then a few times I've vetwrapped one foot really thick to slow the butthead rooster down. Both worked well enough to thwart his speed enough for the hens to get away. With the Polish and silkies I've always given the hens haircuts so they can see the dude coming . Seems to help well too.
