They are very pretty!!!I love their color,I don't ever see black ducks.Do they have a sheen to the feathers? The pool is neat,I've never seen a kidney shaped kiddie pool. Why didn't they take those two if they took all the others?

Awesome! I have a cayuga, she is my baby, she follows me all around the yard, likes to sit on my lap, even gives me hugs! If ducks weren't so dang messy I'd get more, I have enough mess with the 3 I already have lol. Have you had ducks before? They are pretty great birds. My chickens are far less work but ducks seem to have more personality. At least at my house they do.

what do you mean that their poop is not so good? it smells worse than chickens lol but it's the best fertilizer you can have in a backyard situation chicken poo has to ferment for a year before you can use it on plants, duck poo can be used immediately. One tip from someone that has the little buggers...change their pool every other day or 3 days at most, especially in the heat, if you wait longer than that, EVERYTHING starts to stink to high heaven, walking out your door will remind you that it needs doing lol. Also, drag the bottom for eggs before you dump it or could have a surprise on your hands, you don't want broken eggs in your yard.

yes really lol it's okay though because it's so watery that it just absorbs right in, nothing to step in really. A good rain kills the smell of what little solids remain.

If duck poop is like goose poop(and trust me,geese are lean, mean pooping machines!!!)it's not as bad as the chicken poop. It's water soluble,it dissolves into almost pure nitrogen, and doesn't smell like chicken poop.A good rain is all that is needed to wash it away.Plus,I have the greenest grass on the block..

The dogs went to their pen and they are scared, so they will slowly get used to the dogs over the next month

I don't know if you plan to eventually mix them in with your chickens or not but if you do, be careful. Use your regular "new chicken" integration methods and don't forget that ducks have blunt beaks and cannot defend themselves as easily. That is why my ducks and chickens are always separated. My dominant hen tried to kill my ducks. Oh, and just in case you didn't know already (just trying to help, not be a know it all) ducks do not put themselves to bed usually, sometimes they will go into their coop at dark but as a general rule, you have to put them into their coop at bedtime. If you want/need help figuring out how to train them just let me know, I have mine very well trained and love that they do what they are told lol

Thank you Sylie!! They will be kenneled for a month as the dogs freak them out, so to get used to the dogs im going extra slow. My friend trained them to go in the duck house when she said "time to go to sleep" I said it to them and buck walked up the ramp into the duck house and i had to help bubbles a bit but then she figured it out:). I already refilled their pool and bucket with fresh water . . They wont go out with my chickens unless im there to watch, as im not sure how Mork my rooster will take to them, so right now everyone can see but not touch each other:)

Fantastic, sounds like you have a good jump on it already Ducks are basically ducklings all of their lives, they are the biggest babies ever. They whine at you when they want something or don't like something, they will argue with you but don't give in because it only takes once and they think they've won forever and will argue all the rest of their days lol! Every duck is different in what treats they like but if one duck decides they like something, the others usually follow along, if one decides they don't like something, the others follow along lol. For example, I used to have a pair of drakes (again with my curse!) and one would eat dry oatmeal but the other wouldn't (usually I tossed it in the pool for them to dive for) after a couple of days, both of them were eating it lol. With my current ducks, When the khaki's were babies (they are a year older than the cayuga) they would eat millet and mealworms, then comes the cayuga who wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole, now none of them will eat them. The cayuga only likes peas (prefers them frozen, even in winter lol) and will have nothing to do with any other treat, period, so now, none of them will eat any treat other than frozen peas and they go wild for them. Feel free to ask any questions you have and I'll help any way that I can
