I live in town and we have a ton of racoons, non have ever bothered my chickens, of course, they live in the fort knox of coops. My ducks on the other hand are not so lucky to live in such a well built coop but!! on the bright side, I live in town so the raccoons are far more interested in the easy meal of garbage cans on every street. *knock on wood* I haven't had a problem with them so far. We also have a lot of possums but they go for whatever the raccoons left.

Nm, I hope you get the fox, he'll be back. Snakes and hawks have been my main enemies.

Foxes are endemic in my area.
They do hunt in daytime (probably at night, too). This is why I am going for electro-net, though sometimes it may fail. Can't guarantee it will be a perfect answer but the locals around here who lose their chickens tend not to have any such protection for their birds. (One guy gets 20 layers each year, and his are all gone by mid-autumn... but no electro-net. Seasonal eggs for him.)
A main concern for me will be hawks. (Birds will be inside at night, so less of an owl concern.)
I fear I am going to be a "helicopter mom"... LOL.

Artemis, the thick hair is against you. But maybe they'll sniff it first. I have 3 eight foot poles in the ground for ground. I'd love it if they sold an amplifier. Grass and weeds under it doesn't do it much good either.
