Saturday and Sunday were perfect days, low 70's both days, sunshine and low humidity. Windows and screen doors all open. It got down to 52 last night, love it. No more 90's!

That would be great. Except moving to the cold when Florida has perfect weather is going to be a tough one. Some reality hit when I went to Kohl's yesterday and bought a few pair of socks and a long sleeve shirt. Haven't worn either in years except for riding boots. I need some insulated cleaning boots too.

I just use an old, beat up pair of snow boots to clean. I realize that you aren't likely to have a pair of those handy but you might find a pair at a second hand store when you get there. You might be surprised what you can find at a second hand store like Goodwill or the like. I have a pair of brand new jeans, tags and stickers still on them that I got for 3 dollars at Goodwill.

Yup. I got $150 riding ankle boots for $25 , slightly used and came looking brand new. I love them. Sturdy as heck. I am a believer in getting pricey footwear used like new on ebay. I'm now on the hunt for something waterproof and insulated as barn boots, maybe calf high. There's lots . I did find one pair I ordered.
I have one LL Bean barn coat that I've had for 25 years and still looking good and warm. I do need a better coat for going out for errands. I had to break down and buy some thick socks and a long sleeve shirt! I have none. I have 2 pair of Sperry Dockers and the rest are backless shoes. I need some good casual pants maybe a step up from jeans and Kohl's wanted $40 for a pair of Lees. I guess I'll wait for a sale.

I had to buy rubber boots earlier this year. The ones that go up to the calf of the leg, due to the every day flooding rains we had earlier this year. I got them from Walmart, cheap ones but kept my feet and pants legs dry. Yeah Karen, you're going to need the warm and fuzzy type boots. We're expecting beautiful weather this weekend and the Blue Angels are here and will do a flyover at the Georgia/Florida game downtown Jax tomorrow. They were flying over our house yesterday practicing their manuevers. I suspect they'll be practicing again today. GO DAWGS!

WooHoo! Blue Angels! I did break down and buy one long sleeve t-shirt and 3 pair of socks. I also got some fur lined waterproof boots off Ebay. For boots that are going to be in chicken crap and mud, a bit used or ugly doesn't matter to me. I have gotten some fine pricey footwear on Ebay for 25% of what they would sell for.

First frost, which was also the killing frost: October 17th. Nothing by half measures around here!
I wish I could find my worn out (but WARM) old goosedown jacket. It would be great for chicken minding when winter really hits. The thing is worn out and about 30 years old, but WARM and fine for dealing with poultry and livestock.
Right now, it's 36 F.

Ok - I'm done with all this rain! Much more and my coops will be floating away, the runs are mud pits - next years projects I guess.

It has been simply beautiful here. There's deep blue skies with low 70's daytime temps, and cool crisp nights with low humidity. Perfect!

Finally! A day w/o rain (they say). Hopefully get much of the unfinished coop done today. My bursitis is a bitch - I move around like a little old lady so can't get anything done quickly....

Ow! Bursitis? Glad you're exercising it as much as you can. I'm amazed at all the places that get more rain than us. Especially places (like I'm going to) where it rains a lot, the gutters are too small and inefficient, and they drain right at the foundation. That will change after this week!

A/C running practically all week, close to 90 and it's muggy. We had big summer like thunderstorms this evening. Fall/winter? Hahahaha!

We got our first measurable snow yesterday. 1/2 inch. The ducks were very unhappy until they realized they could eat it. They are 3 yrs old and just this year figured out it's edible...I never claimed they were brilliant.

Predicted second sticking snowfall starting Thursday evening. 4-9 inches, with it changing to rain and slush on Friday morning.
We've had so MUCH rain this year! I want to send some of our plethora out back west to California... but obviously not possible.
Getting the chickens ready to be protected from snow that will blow into their run.
