Raining here since yesterday supposed to get more next weekend due to hurricane florence. Karen mostly we get the tail end of them depending on how they hit the coast. Im almost 4 hours from the shore so depending how it hits ill get either torrential rain and bad wind or minor rain and a bit of wind

Florence is heading to North Carolina. I hope people evacuate and not stick around. We're expecting a little wind, rough seas and much higher tides than normal, maybe a little flooding in low lying areas as usual. According to our weatherguessers, our temps are supposed to soar up into the mid to upper 90's this weekend due the hurricane. I know this is true. Everytime one of those storms passes, our temps skyrocket to record highs grrrrrr. I guess the counterclockwise airflow is sucked up from the equator.

Dang it's smokin hot outside this morning! Mid 90's going to upper 90's later. I already put out ice water for the chickens and it looks like one of my BR's is going into full molt, feathers everywhere.

I hear you Dawg, it was 92 here today with blazing sun, it's not supposed to be this hot in mid September up here. When my girls molt it looks like they exploded in the coop and run lol!

Yes, feathers everywhere. I think my chickens are lucky. Sometimes I'll see a few panting but for the most part they're in the shade all day. And nothing is blocking a breeze anywhere whatsoever. It's still hot.

Another hot one today. We had a high of 97 yesterday afternoon at 5pm. Thank goodness for a/c! My birds have been drinking the ice water I gave them. The Barred Rocks like eating the smaller pieces of ice as they melt, fun to watch lol. They are also excreting watery diarrhea, this is normal when they drink a lot of water. They are opening their wings away from their body. They do this to let heat escape away from the body and for airflow as well. Beaks are open on some of them too. I had to use the garden hose and spray the rear end on the Barred Rock that's in molt yesterday afternoon, her rear end was a mess. I think she actually liked the luke warm water wash down. She's a good hen; she lets me pick her up and likes to have the side of her face gently scratched. She likes to be gently petted especially under her chin. She'll even doze off to sleep after a while lol. The fans are going full speed inside and outside the coops. I never thought I'd say this after all the rains we had earlier this summer...we need cooling rains!

Too much rain. My runs are wet. Stinky. Ugh. Sun came out late afternoon today. I need at least 2 weeks of hot weather to dry out the runs

What worked for me in NY with the horse was very coarse sand.
I'm not getting 97 degrees here. Mostly 93's.
You know why they call it "dog days"? Because the weather feels like dog's breath breathing on you.
