Just about every morning one of my Barred Rock hens start crowing. She is at the top of the pecking order of the three that I have. This morning she was crowing longer than usual. It normally means that she is calling me to go out to their pen and give them their morning "fix" of "crack," in other words 'scratch.' They are addicted to scratch lol. I dont give them much at all, a pinch or two and tell them that they better lay some eggs today or they wont get their fix. It works. I get two eggs one day, one egg the next day. It's been going on like this for months, and they are just over 5 years old. Nothing like a little bribery and blackmail with my chickens! Hahaha.

I can one up you.I've got a 5 yo mix and a 4 yo RIR and they personally deliver their eggs to the laundry basket in the utility room.If I don't see them wanting in they go from the front and back doors, having a hissy until I notice and let them in.Then they lay,get their treat and go back out.One time,I found the 5 yo egg bound in the coop.We were out fishing and got back right before dusk.I think she tried to lay back there but she thinks she's above the other chickens and couldn't do it.I had to carry her in and put her in the basket but she passed it right away then.So spoiled!!!
