REALLY REALLY Angry at IRS

I don't know what their definition of competent is.  We got a "not a bill" bill from them today for 7k!  1k is for a penalty that we owe them so much and $330 for interest so far.  

Do these people actually know what a Roth account is?  Do they understand that anyone that's had it for more than 5 years or is Disabled is free to take the money out.  This money had been taxed long ago prior to being put into a Roth IRA. So it's not reportable income.   Then there's a calculation made for how much social security you have to pay tax on, so you put the total of your SS in , and at the end it gives you a smaller number that is actually taxable.  Well seems that they see that smaller number as what we are actually declaring!  Are they stupid?  

So because of the 11k I took out of my Roth and perfectly within the irs guidelines, they said I need to pay taxes on that money and it also means that more of our social security would be taxed.  Why is it that I have to end up fixing or clearing up what they have mistaken.  And not to mention that we used Turbo Tax so it's not like we did them ourselves .  And the way IRS does things is that I'm actually expected to pay the 7k and then wait for them to correct the mistake.  I don't have 7k to send them for something that's not my fault.  

The funniest of it is that it was 11k taken out of a Roth account.  Meaning it was already taxed money.  Duh.  So I'm not paying taxes on it again!

Sounds like a chinese fire drill to me. Sharon dealt with something similar but luckily her tax accountant took care of it.
Wait until you deal with a "cancellation of debt." That IS a nightmare. Fortunately the IRS was very helpful and told me how to deal with it. Bottom line; never do business with capital one, real jerks put me through the wringer but I got the last laugh.

CQ I had pm'd you about that but the pm was rejected because it's down as chickenpatti13 (?) and not chickenqueen. I was ranting at the situation of things with the people we should trust. Those who should be making decisions for the country and not their bias. We don't pay them for that.

Most members would appreciate if we can talk about this without mentioning or putting down the other party. There's plenty of swampy stuff out there that is just plain wrong for everyone and has nothing to do with parties. Breaking the law is breaking the law.

As for IRS, to have everything at their fingertips, and access to all information needed, they sure are not competent. At least I have all the documentation to support that the assholes and not me are responsible for this huge 7k mistake.

I wrote the letter to IRS stating that the (11k) was already taxed and had two valid guidelines for taking the money out without penalty or as taxable income. I copied the deposit slip from 2007 showing the opening of a Roth account and showing that the bank had changed to it's current name. They request a doctor's note stating a disability but I copied the judges ruling in the matter.

So in all I had to correct them in all that and their error. More of the same incompetent government! I'm just tired of IRS method of notification without investigation and it just gives me major anxiety which is not a good thing for me. A$$holes!

Omg thats insane!!! Good for you for putting them in their plave. But, are you sure it wasnt a scam? The new scam.is people pretending to be the IRS. Are you really sure it was the real IRS?

No scam, it's an official form I got in the mail. I've typed my letter, copied all my factual papers that prove I'm right, and the rules involving what's considered income by social security. Roth account money has already been included as taxable income at a particular rate. It's done. You can't do it again.

After mailing packets of all I had to 3 different addresses, I got a letter today saying that I OWE NOTHING!  8 months of letters back and forth.
