Buddy will be coming home with me next Saturday. His owner went to an assisted living and the family didnt want him A friend of mine has him and i evaluated him today. He is almost 10(birthday in march), has a heart murmur, and a tooth that needs to be pulled and a possible luxating patella from 2016.... Ill bring him to my vet to see what can be done about the tooth. He isnt neutered either. Im hoping the heart murmur isnt bad so i can at least get the rotten tooth yanked . He will probably live his life out with me , not many people want an old dog with a heart murmur. Which is fine by me, he is a super sweet dog who loves attention. He is great with dogs, my friend has a dog and they get along good. Ill find out how he is with cats when i bring him home lol.

You never know ME. Once you get him vet checked, groomed and all that, you might be able to adopt him out to a senior person or senior couple. Older dogs are good for seniors because the dogs have their "wild days" behind them and the dogs would rather be with their owner all the time. You'd have to be honest with the adoptee(s) about the heart murmur etc... I cant remember, but I've heard of a program where older dogs are only adopted out to seniors...just dont remember where I heard it, maybe our local news at one time, not sure.

Poor Buddy with them problems! He's 10, I wonder how long he's had those problems.

Im hoping the heart murmur is low grade, it was diagnosed on his vet records in 2018 but nothing was done. So who knows. He is such a sweet little dog. He did go from 12lbs to 9lbs in 3 years, but that could just be age or the rotten tooth i saw yesterday. Once i get him he will head to the vet. If his health is good ill look for a senior for him that is home all day. He crates good but his last owner was home all day so i want him to have a great life . He is just as big as my Kashi lol.

Probably the tooth ME. Small dogs usually live a long time as you probably already know, even with a mild heart murmur. A second opinion about it would be best. Their sight is normally the first to go.

I get him tomorrow. Vet appt the 13th. My vet said as long as the murmur is still low grade and chest xrays show no enlargement he should be fine for neutering and tooth pull. You can see his eyes are a bit cloudy as well.

Oh, wow. I didn't realize you were getting him from a friend. Hopefully she'll realize what's best for the dog. I would find it extremely hard to give up a pet.

She got him from the owners son who didnt want the dog. She initially was fostering him to find him a home but decided to keep him
