So, I have this hen called Hen Solo b/c she's always on her own. Anyway, saw her yesterday morning fussing to lay an egg so I left her to it. Come lockdown she is nowhere to be found - I searched the barn high and low - nothing. I thought perhaps she was being naughty and wanted to stay out, so locked everyone up for the night. This morning - no Hen Solo. Called her - nothing. Then I remembered where she wanted to lay her egg - on top of the hay stacked on a coop. There's a gap between the coop and the wall, so I got my step ladder and flashlight and - Lo & behold! There she is! She had laid her egg down there too! I fished her out with my large fishing net - boy was she pissed! Spent 10 minutes sucking up water - glad she is safe tho'..

Boy what a relief! I know I've been out a few times with a flashlight in the dark looking for a chicken!

Omg thank goodness you found her! I hate when they pick crazy spots to hide.

Omg thank goodness you found her! I hate when they pick crazy spots to hide. I don't think she intended to be there - in fact she has avoided that part of the barn so far today!

Maybe she fell in there?

I had a barn once with an outer wall and a "kick" wall inside. A wild turkey chick fell in. After a while of peeping mom and chicks just left him there. Once I knew where the chick was I started tearing down the inner half wall with a crowbar and got him out.
