I didnt finish the coop as planned. It's been raining off and on today. Much of my coop time was spent aligning the door frame. It's not pretty but I got it done and it's functional. Tomorrow I have to add a final vent, caulk, build the ramp and a few other things.

Thanks ME. I'm not really that good at building coops, honestly. I shouldve taken Carpentry instead of Horticulture when I was going to vocational/technical school while in high school. Oh well. I know the coop will stand up to a cat 1 hurricane though lol.
My wife spends more time with the chicks than I do. Two of them hop up in her hand every time she's with them. The dark colored one pecks her fingernails... wannabe "troublemaker." LOL

I'm glad she's finding some fun times with them. It's great when the spouse gets an interest in them.

I'm almost done with the new coop. Tomorrow I'll finish up for sure. I have to caulk some, add a little insulation around the door frame, make the nest boxes.

She even cleans out the brooder! There's no more city slicker in her lol. If and when we move to Tennessee, wait until I get her interested in raising a few hogs LOL!

Here's a pic of a stand up fan in the coop I had when I lived in Georgia. It also had a trap door at the base of the fan to rake out soiled bedding into a wheelbarrow. You can see the outline of the trap door in the pic.

This is a giant indiustrial fan. It was great for here. I wish I had time to sell it. As well as this king size sleigh bed. I'll take them with me and sell them.

I finally decided to take my last two Barred Rock hens to the feed store today for resale. They are almost 6 years old. One hen crows like a rooster and she lays eggs, no problem. The other is my favorite and I'll miss them both. I'll be dismantling their coop this week and splitting their pen between the Brat Pack and the new chicks. Taking care of 3 coops and pens has become abit of a headache and it's time to downsize. I'm not getting younger.
I'm also taking a Speckled Sussex hen to the feed store as well. She has impacted crop. I had everything set up to do surgery but while she was caged, I saw her eating her feathers after preening herself. She had gotten into the habit of eating feathers and sand while she was in the pen. There was plenty of grit available and gamebird feed didnt help neither. I decided not to do the surgery because she would go right back doing the same thing. She'll make a good meal on someones dinner table for sure.

Here's the empty Barred Rock pen. Further back in the pen, I'll be cutting open the right side so the Light Brahma's can have more running room. Also it'll be easier access when it comes to add more sand in the pens. The 2nd pic is the only wood I'm saving after dismantling the coop.
