So you getting more eggs? Yes. I'm getting eggs from 2 of the 3 Speckled Sussex and the Jersey Giant. The EE has slowed laying. My three 5 year old Barred Rocks are laying 2 to 3 eggs a day, one in mini molt no less. I guess they figured that they better start producing eggs or it's skillet time lol.

Oh gosh. If you were buying chickens just specifically for eggs, EE's are not great layers and SS and JG are great layers but take breaks. I had a BO that laid 366 eggs the first year, but died at 3 years old of I believe cardiac failure. The ee's also start out with a strong color and as the season goes by I think the color does not remain as strong. (someone else chime in?) BR;s are supposed to be reliable. My JG's in their youth laid lots of eggs that got really really big. Hubs said one always laid double yolkers. That must have been Charlene.

Yep, ees color fades as winter sets in. Plus they dont lay every day. When they molt the pretty much stop laying. My ees lay pretty eggs , but not faithfully lol

I've had only one other EE when I lived in Georgia and she was a good layer. I didnt notice if the eggshell color faded really. My current new EE has stopped laying eggs. She's laid a few soft shelled eggs and one gel egg without a shell. I gave her salmon to eat yesterday. It's high in vitamin D needed for calcium absorption and salmon also contains calcium. I'll be giving her more salmon this morning and tomorrow morning. So, we'll see what happens. I'll give her one week and there's no eggs, she's getting donated to the feed store. Hands down, Barred Rocks lay eggs for the long haul. They take breaks once in awhile. Mine are currently laying eggs every day, not bad for as old as they are..

Sharon got bit by the "chicken math" bug LOL. She loves our Light Brahma, even after me telling her not to get attached to them. The young hen "Susie" comes running to her every time Sharon calls her. So Sharon has been bothering me to order more Light Brahmas. Hahaha!
After all this time, I caved in yesterday afternoon and ordered 3 Light Brahma chicks from Meyer hatchery and they'll be here next week. I've already got everything set up in the patio, just gotta buy their feed.
I'm going to get started building a new coop for them. I love chicken related special projects lol.
