Hi. Just found this site called vitalitymedical.com . Very nice, cheap, has everything. If you'Re looking for feeding tube look under urine catheters. They make great feeding tubes. I put an order together because it's cheap to be prepared. I even got chux to make a nice clean area.
I found this stuff I knew about, but...... it's called Iodaform gauze. Impregnated with a bacteria killer and petroleum. Or you can get strip in a jar (5 yards) that's sort of dry but has germ killer in it. Also horse "wonder Dust" which is Iodadoform (?) Powder that also stop the bleeding. I used that today. It's cheap to be prepared with a few supplies. I'm a minimalist and believe in buying as little as possible -stuff my imagination can't take the place of:
Possibly rubber gloves and some chux for a sterile field. But newspaper works great.
epsom salts
little sterile scapel blades (the refills for a handle)
gauze and some sterile gauze.
betadine and an old toothbrush to scrub the area. Soap and water is good too.
Iodadoform (sp) gauze or antibiotic ointment or Farnham Wonder Dust (also stops bleeding)
tape. Any kind of tape. I've used medical tape, paper or silk. Then duck tape in 3/4 inch strips.
A few 3ml, 1ml, and 30ml syringes and maybe 60 ml.
urine catheters usually 14 and 16 french
alcohol pads or a bottle
18 and 23 gauge needles for injections , short if possible. For thick meds or thin ones.
Like I said I'm a minimalist and try to keep things to a minimum and concoct the rest. Just remember scrub the skin area good with betaine or soap and water. Scrub. Wash your hands. When dressing, all you have to worry about is sterility of whatever touches the wound first in dressing. After that it's clean stuff. If you place a sterile bandage, the outer 1/4 inch is not sterile and you may handle it.
This kit should cost somewhere between $25 and $35 depending on what you order. Anyone else can add whatever they want but this is my kit.
