Since there wasnt any threat of rain yesterday (for once,) I decided to replace the tarp over the main coop. The size of the tarp is 12x20. It was starting to leak in various places and had held up against Hurricane Irma last year. Then with the sun beating on it earlier this year and now the constant rains, it was time to replace it. This time I've done things different. I bought 3 rolls of white waterproof underlayment which is used as a flooring moisture barrier in houses. Then I'm going to add blue tarp over the underlayment where I'll have to align it with the gutter. Then I'll be installing the heavy duty tarp over all of it. I installed the underlayment yesterday afternoon as the sun was going down. It was just too hot to go up on the top of the pen to start work earlier, but it was still hot working up there. My clothes were soaked with sweat after I finished. Afterwards, a nice cool shower and ultram killed the aching pain in my body lol. I'll be taking a few pics to show progression soon. The first pic was taken early Sunday morning just before sunrise. You can see the underlayment. Then I added the blue tarp lined up for the rainwater to drain into the gutter. Finally the heavy duty tarp installed over everything else. I finished up at 10am, glad it's over with.

What is waterproof underlayment? Those tarps do not last long even the ones I buy with many ml's thick. The sun and weather really beat them to death. It would be great to have something better.

Karen, I bought 3 rolls of this at Home Depot. They sell different thickness, I bought the thin underlayment. I recommend tarping over it. Underlayment is used as a moisture barrier in homes with concrete slabs when laminate flooring is put down. I suppose it's used in other types of homes as well.

THAT looks like good stuff! I would imagine the tarp protects it from the sun, which is a good thing. I wish I could redo the whole roof on my 3x pen. 40 feet long.
