That's really gross. I've heard of people walking barefoot and getting them (in Africa) but here? I guess he'll need to take some doses of wormer.

The poor kid is getting ongoing treatment. He has also developed a staph infection due to the worms.
Hookworms are zoonotic. If you're barefooted and step on a pile of infected dog crap or cat crap, the larva can go through your skin and you become infected too. Chickens can get them as well. I always wear chicken shoes and never pick up chicken crap with my bare hands. I always wear disposable gloves even when washing or spraying off poopy butt. Chicken shoes stay out outside on the patio. Alot of people here in our country have them and doctors treat symptoms but rarely test for worms as the root cause (per Dr Oz.) Kinda reminds me of alot of chicken owners. They treat symptoms of whatever is ailing their chickens, but refuse to believe it's worms as the root cause.

Ewwww!!!He could feel them writhing under his skin. How awful!!!People are also getting flesh eating bacteria from the water. One guy died after contracting it after eating raw oysters and people are losing limbs after contracting it swimming. You shouldn't eat raw seafood anymore or go swimming with open cuts.

Ewwww!!!!He could feel them writhing under his skin as they tried to get away. How awful!!!People are getting flesh eating bacteria from the water. Some guy contracted it and died after eating raw oysters.Other people are losing limbs after going swimming with open cuts and contracting it.I guess you gotta stay away from the beaches, waters, raw seafood......I remember getting a new patient one time from a local hospital. When doing my assessment,I was horrified to find she was pooping nothing but worms and was really emancipated.Nothing in her history,no medications, nothing and I know it didn't just happen and I'm sure I wasn't the first to see it.After appropriate treatment, she gained weight and got better and eventually went home, something she thought she'd never see again.Worms are more common than people realize.

Authorities in our area dont recommend swimming in ponds or where there is stagnant water in lakes or ponds during the summer. There is an amoeba that lives in the mud. When the mud is stirred up the amoeba enters into the nose then into the sinus cavity and makes its way to the brain and eats the brain. If you get it, you die. Some lakes and rivers in tropical countries have parasites that go up in your private parts and infect them by expelling spikes into the flesh to stay put. They are attracted to the private area when a person urinates in the water. Military members in Vietnam were told not to pee in the water and wear a rubber. I was told it was excruciating pain. How they got rid of them, I dont know.

It's kind of rarish to hear about worms from walking barefoot. True, but it happens with hookworms.
