Everybody got watermelon yesterday. It felt like 105+ and today is suppose to be worse. They'll get the other 1/2 this afternoon, just stuck it in the freezer,so it's nice and cold. We're expecting a cool front so hopefully it will cool down a little.

Weekend has been nice, low 80's and low humidity.Got the field cut,the worst and hottest part,so I'm good to go for the next heatwave.I was looking at the pond as I cut the grass.Last year,I broke down and bought the really expensive cattail killer, the $60/bottle stuff didn't work.I sprayed in sections over time so they weren't all decomposing at once.Took all summer but much to my surprise, there hasn't been any knew growth at all this year.I am very impressed,I've been fighting them for years and always lost the battle before. It feels good to win one!!!

you kill cattails???!! omg I would kill to have them! I can't find any here. I use them in crafts, the leaves and stems can be used for a ton of things. They are edible too They are the perfect survival product. You can make shelter from them, rough/crude blankets, weave 2 mats from the leaves and stuff them with the fluff to make a survival pillow. *blush* my "crazy" is showing sorry!

They're all gone....I had to get rid of them because of the muskrats and the damage they caused back there.Come on down,I know where there are more, though. All you can handle.I did miss the red wing black birds that nested in them.

I would love to! Sadly, travel is not in my immediate future. They really frown on vehicles that only drive 40 mph on the freeway. (That's all the faster my truck can go and I don't have money for repairs or replacement) Maybe someday! I'm sure there will always be cattails down there somewhere!
