I messaged NM i hope he shows up here. The neck feathers are round so to me hen. But the bright colors scream cockeral.
And this is why mixing breeds is not good lol... trying to figure out if male or female stinks hahaha

Just for curiosity and a learning thing... what is your decision based on? I mean, what makes you think rooster so positively?

The comb is too far developed early and thick legs.
The chicken is about 8 weeks old ? ? ? ? Pullets usually don't get red until just before laying about 16-22 weeks.Except ISA brown in my experience.

They are under 8 weeks old. I put them outside at a week and a half as it was really warm out.

The comb is too far developed early and thick legs. The chicken is about 8 weeks old ? ? ? ? Pullets usually don't get red until just before laying about 16-22 weeks.Except ISA brown in my experience. Okay, I was just curious, I have discovered that the rules don't always apply. I have a mille d'Uccle right now that everyone was sure was a hen (even you guessed hen at that time lol) but nope. He barely had any comb at 6 weeks and was yellow at that time. (even though his brother of the same hatch date had a big red comb around 2 1/2 weeks old) About 2 days after I posted the request for gender ID (on CF, not here) I woke up one morning and he had a big, red comb and was crowing lol So I guess there are no hard and fast rules, they are going to be what they are going to be and you just have to "wing it" (bahahaha) I will tell you this though, When I was picking these 2 d'Uccle's, I had read that if you pick up a chick by the neck (gently, don't pull its head off and keep your hand close under it's feet) and let it's feet dangle, a girl will pull her legs up and a boy will let his legs dangle, the reason for this is that the shape of the hips of a girl keeps her legs from dropping all the way down. Now, when I picked these 2 out, I couldn't remember if boys dangle or girls so I picked 2 that let their legs dangle and sure enough, both were boys. Lesson learned! I will never forget it and in the future will only pick chicks with legs that don't dangle.

Thank you Maryellen! His comb is coming in, isn't it. He walks like a girl though. Maybe he's just gender confused! lol. When my porcelain (George) crowed for the first time he actually scared himself. It was hilarious. As soon as the crow finished he ducked and started dipping and dashing and looking like some great, unknown noise happened. Maybe Brownie will be just as surprised if and when he crows the first time hahaha!

At one time I was really hurting for a rooster. The girls were missing one too. I just couldn't seem to hatch one. The I got a dozen "Crele Polish" eggs. One hatched. It looked like a boy. Every month it looked like a boy. Guessers on another site guessed boy. I finally had my boy who turned out to be gold laced Polish. HE actually laid an egg. It still took convincing for me even after the egg was laid!
