The bird that started this thread at the very beginning, the one I thought was a rooster, have since discovered she is a she...laid her first egg today! woot! it was tiny and round but otherwise perfect, good shell quality, nice and full inside, yolk was bright yellow/orange. Earlier I was in the garden and one of them started singing the egg song so I went to investigate and only 3 of the 4 birds was in the run and they were gathered around the door to the coop staring in so I opened the door and Denala was fixing up the nest. After a few minutes, she came back out and went about her day. About 2 hours later she was getting a drink and it just fell out of her lol! The wyandottes both ran over to it faster than I could get the run door open and pecked a hole in it. I snatched it away from them before they could get a taste of the inside. They are always so curious about anything new, they always have to see if it's edible. I don't want them to think the eggs are edible....
Soooo...yay! I'm going to have to be very diligent from now to make sure I catch the egg(s) as soon as they are laid until they whole flock decides not to eat them.

You can get golf balls or fake eggs and put them in the nesting boxes now. If the hens peck them they wont break and it will teach the birds to not peck any eggs in the nest boxes hopefully. Thats what i do. I put a golf ball in each nesting box when new birds are going to start laying

Yeah, I knew you could do that but it appears it's not going to be a problem. This morning when I went out to let them out for the day, I found 2 more eggs in the nest, fully intact, one was shell less but otherwise normal (small of course) and the other one was perfect but small. Then later this evening, just for kicks, I looked in the nest box and there was yet another egg, even smaller than the other ones and very dark brown compared to the others. I'm guessing the lighter colored ones are the JG's and the dark one was from the Wyandottes. Don't know which one yet but, I'll watch them. Eggs galore! They didn't bother any of the eggs that were in the nest box (they seem to all be using the same box *shrug*)
