I have spent the last 2 days building a pen which will be in a fenced in area. In the meantime, my Polish rooster has been torturing them to the point that they go in their little dog house and don't come out all day. Not my girls! Even if one is my psycho Houdan, I can't stand to hear her in distress.
So I put in 4 poles to make a 4x6 pen/open coop, and have the roof near wired in. HUBS is making the door and it's almost done. I may be able to finish it in one more day or so.

I have 2 16x16, one 8x16, and one 10x13 which is supposed to be for the coop girls if I have to leave overnight or something. This little one will make 5 of which 4 will be in use.
I got to take pics, I know.

Yes, it started with one group. Then it was 2 because my Polish didn't look too happy. Then it became a matter of roosters being separated with some hens for them. But I'm trying to combine what I can when I can. I have 2 timid girls in one pen 8x16 with a little yard. I got 5 silkies, and 5 Polish in a 16x16 yard with a large run to be let out in. I got 4 silkie males in a 16x16 pen. And 2 Houdan hens in a what will be a small pen and a larger yard for daytimes. That rooster that was causing them to hide all day and had weight lost (grrr!) is gone. I took him to the feed store and told the girls he's for processing only or a group of older hens or vaccinated hens. I wrote it all down for her. It's the best I can do. I miss the stinker. But I have to be realistic.

I always use alot of re-purposed wood and hardware. Several times sometimes. Can't use my many stripped screws tho, LOL. I have all the equipment I need including a compressor so it's easy finding the right tools. Now if I could only find strip less Phillips screws!

How do you add pictures?

To avoid putting tiny pics on here, I go to Imgur and upload them. Then copy and paste the link for "forums". It has to start with "img" and end with "img" in the link. This way the pics come out big. It's more work but I'd rather not have thumbnails.
Otherwise, on your post hit "reply" in the upper right corner. It brings you to a posting screen that has little symbols at the top. Hit the one that looks like a photo. It says browse. Hit that and it brings you to your own files. Click on a pic, then hit "open" . It should go back to your post and be inserted.
Instructions are hard. I try to be clear but not wordy. Hope this helps.

hmmm it's not showing up now lol haha now I feel like a dork. I used to be able to copy and paste but maybe the picture is too big. I'll figure it out. I don't like using the image insert thinger here, I don't have url's for my pictures, they are saved on my computer, they don't have url's.

Try Imgur. It's a bit of learning but it's great posting big pictures.

My errs in building pens.
I never what to do with the edges of hardware cloth. They catch on my skin. Then, they end up attaching to always one 2x4 that sticks out more than the rest because it had to be nailed inside vs. outside and has to be bent or doctored up.
I have finally made a pen tall enough to stand up in . It gets tiring bumping your head and bending over all the time.
I need to think about cutting extra wire for the apron on the ground. And a simple way of holding the outer edges down. I've been using cement tiles.
I didn't provide enough slant for the roof so the tarp on top collects water in spots and needs to be held up with a post underneath.
Always measure twice and cut once. Too many times I end up with a piece just inches too small or a cut piece that needs to be cut some more.
Have gloves handy. I never do and have plenty of cuts and stabs.
I still have problems covering the wire edges so I'm not ripping my clothes.
Got to take pics!

The only exception would be the slanted roof, I got it right. I made my pens tall enough to stand in...until I added sand! I bump my head all the time, just call me "knothead." I dont rip my clothes from wire edges, it's always my skin and I bleed like a stuck pig. I use these 10" pins to hold down aprons: www.lowes.com/pd/COL-MET-10-in-Silver-Galvanized-Steel-Edging-Pin/3015002
